FAQ

This page consists of a list of Frequently Asked Questions relating to the British Columbia Ultimate Championships.

Why is BCUC at Winona again?

Because the board has not yet been able to determine a bid process for granting the tournament to other tournament directors. This is something that we hope to accomplish in time for next year. Additionally, we invite anyone who's interested in defining how that bid process should work to be part of the BCDSS Tournament Committee.

Why must everyone be a BCDSS Member to play in BCUC?

Partly it's to cover everyone's butt and to ensure adequate insurance coverage for all players. Secondly, it's because part of the BCDSS's mandate is to provide high level competition for our membership, and that we subsidize the event heavily, so this ensures that it is our membership which is benefiting from these services.

Why must everyone be a CUPA Member to play in BCUC?

All teams which hope to continue on to the Canadian Ultimate Championships (CUC) must be composed of CUPA members, as per CUPA's requirements. Not planning on going to CUC even if you qualify based on your finish at BCUC? By requiring that all players in BCUC are also CUPA members, we support Ultimate in Canada, and we ensure that BC is eligible for additional bids based on the "size" and "growth" criterias as defined by CUPA. In maximizing the number of bids, we ensure that more BC teams are able to attend CUC.

How do I register a team for BCUC?

Follow the links on the Events Details page, to the BCDSS website where you fill out an on-line form.

Can I just come out and watch?

Yes! BCUC is a great opportunity to come out and watch some of the best Ultimate in the World. It's not an accident that BC Teams regularly win their divisions at Nationals.

What's this about winning $1,000?

This is the second year in which the BCDSS is able to provide the top finishing team in each division attending CUC a $1,000 travel subsidy (an additional subsidy is available in the Juniors division). The BCDSS is committed to helping to support Ultimate at the highest levels, and to lighten the burden on teams representing the province at the highest level. The restriction on these funds to be used as a subsidy for travel to Nationals, rather than a straight cash award, is based both on our desire to support teams who take it upon themselves to represent BC at Nationals, as well as the conditions imposed on the funds by the Direct Access Grant funding from which they are received.. The BCDSS would like to thank and acknowledge the financial assistance of the Province of British Columbia, in providing these travel subsidies.
